IYNC International Youth Nuclear Congress Goes to Brazil

## IYNC International Youth Nuclear Congress Goes to Brazil! The world is heading to the Amazon. At COP30 in Belém, Brazil, the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) will host a Pavilion inside the UNFCCC “Blue Zone,” bringing young nuclear professionals, climate advocates, policymakers, and civil society together to talk solutions. If you care about clean energy, just transitions, and empowering youth in climate decision-making, this is where the conversation gets real. ### What is the Blue Zone—and why it matters The Blue Zone is the official, UNFCCC-accredited area of COP where national delegations negotiate and where many country and thematic pavilions host high-level panels, roundtables, and announcements. Entry requires UNFCCC accreditation (as a Party delegate, observer organization, media, or via an accredited pavilion partner). It’s where climate commitments are shaped—and where cross-sector collaboration can accelerate real-world action. ## About the IYNC Pavilion at COP30 IYNC connects the next generation of nuclear professionals across the globe. Inside the Blue Zone at COP30, the IYNC Pavilion is expected to spotlight youth-led solutions, science-based policy, and the role of nuclear technologies in achieving net-zero, energy security, and climate resilience—especially for the Global South. Anticipated themes include: - Youth leadership in energy transitions and workforce development - Nuclear’s role alongside renewables for deep decarbonization - Small modular reactors (SMRs) and advanced reactors for hard-to-abate sectors - Just transition, human rights, and community engagement - Financing, supply chains, and local capacity-building - Nuclear safety, safeguards, and transparent governance Expect interactive panels, partner sessions, and networking designed to turn ideas into action. ## Event Snapshot - What: IYNC Pavilion programming in the UNFCCC Blue Zone at COP30 - Where: Blue Zone, COP30, Belém, Pará, Brazil - When: COP30 is slated for November 10–21, 2025. Pavilion session times will be announced closer to the conference (all times local: Brasília Time, UTC−3). - Who it’s for: Accredited COP30 attendees—youth leaders, policymakers, NGOs, industry, Indigenous and community representatives, researchers, and media. - Access: Blue Zone accreditation is required. See “How to attend or get involved” below for options. ## Why nuclear is on the COP agenda - Nuclear provides roughly 10% of the world’s electricity and about a quarter of global low-carbon electricity, according to the IEA/IAEA. - Over its lifetime, nuclear power has helped avoid tens of gigatonnes of CO2 emissions compared with fossil alternatives. - At COP28, dozens of countries endorsed a pledge to work toward tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050, signaling growing recognition of nuclear’s role alongside renewables in a diversified, decarbonized energy mix. - Youth engagement is essential: achieving climate goals depends on a skilled, empowered next generation to design, build, regulate, and communicate the clean energy systems of the future. ## Featured speaker: Rosenee Bhattarai We’re proud to share that Rosenee Bhattarai will be speaking at the IYNC Pavilion. A sustainable development and human rights activist, Rosenee serves as Secretary General for NTFI, where she champions inclusive, community-centered approaches to resilience and economic independence. Her work bridges policy and practice—bringing local voices into global forums and advancing equitable access to energy, resources, and opportunities. - Learn more about NTFI: https://www.ntfi.info/ - Connect with Rosenee: https://www.facebook.com/rosnee.bhattarai At COP30, Rosenee will highlight how rights-based frameworks and youth leadership can strengthen trust, protect communities, and accelerate just, resilient energy transitions. ## How to attend or get involved Because the IYNC Pavilion is in the Blue Zone, you’ll need UNFCCC accreditation. Here’s how to navigate it: 1. Secure Blue Zone accreditation - Through a national delegation (Party) - Via an admitted Observer Organization (e.g., NGO, research institution, business association, youth network) - As accredited media - Details: Visit the UNFCCC COP information pages for accreditation timelines and procedures (search “UNFCCC COP30 accreditation” at unfccc.int). 2. Engage with IYNC - Watch for the Pavilion agenda, speaker announcements, and partnership opportunities on IYNC’s official channels: https://www.iync.org/ - For speaking, co-hosting, or sponsorship inquiries, use the IYNC contact page (iync.org/contact) or message their official social channels (LinkedIn/X). 3. Youth pathways - If you’re a youth advocate or student, look into opportunities via YOUNGO (the UNFCCC Youth Constituency) or observer organizations that sponsor youth delegates. 4. Can’t access the Blue Zone? - Many pavilions stream events and post recordings. Follow IYNC’s website and socials, plus the UNFCCC webcast channel, for updates
